Here are the things you'll want to do if you know this is the path you want to take.

Go Through the Physical and Mental Requirements

You'll have to make sure that you meet the criteria and that you are physically in good health so that you can qualify to be a pilot, and so you can pass the physical and mental tests.

Find a Training School

Once you find out if you're going to meet all the requirements and be eligible to apply for pilot school, you'll want to find a training program that fits your budget. You may have to travel out of the area if there isn't a school by you, and not all programs are the same. If you are worried about the cost, consider filing for financial aid in advance to see what financial help you can get to cover your tuition.

Get into a Mentoring Program

Once you get accepted, or as you're going through the application process, find a commercial airline pilot mentored training program you can be a part of. This type of program allows you to see what it's like to be a pilot, it allows you to learn from some of the best experienced pilots that are out there, and it helps you get through your training.

You can compare different programs all around the United States if you have concerns about the amount of time that you'll be training, and the amount of money that you'll have to pay to become a pilot. The programs are often competitive so you may have to get references to get into the programs, and you'll have to exhibit that you have the skill and determination to finish the program. If being a commercial pilot is your number one career option and what you want out of life, start the process and be prepared to fill out your application.
